The world is overflowing with advice for women on how to do be “better” professionals.Be more confident. Be assertive. Stop being so emotional. Keep it short. Speak up.If you have heard these things and felt a quiet sense of exhaustion, like you are always one step behind a rulebook nobody gave you, I understand. And I want to offer you a different way of looking at it.The problem is not the traveler. It is the road.&nbsp;Think about it this way: Imagine hiking up a rocky mountain in flat shoes. You will struggle. That does not make you a bad hiker. It means your shoes do not match the ground.<h3>Adaptive Skills as Strengths</h3>Most leadership models were built around traditionally masculine behaviors such as assertiveness, decisiveness, bold action. And while those qualities have real value, they are not the whole picture. Relational intelligence, empathy, intuition, these tend to be undervalued, even though they are exactly what many teams and organizations are missing.Did you know that men are more likely to receive feedback tied to potential and strategic impact; While women are more likely to receive feedback on communication style and likability?The qualities women are often told to change are the very ones that have contributed to their success: Taking time to think before you respond. Double-checking something because you care about getting it right. Reading the room before sharing your opinion. Waiting for the right moment. These are not signs of weakness or lack of confidence. They are signs of awareness. And awareness is what makes a leader someone people actually trust. These are adaptive skills like kindness, cooperation, and emotional awareness that can help you succeed when embraced.<h3>The Weight of Mixed Messages</h3>Women are often asked to embody contradictions:Be warm, but firm.Be confident, but never aggressive.Be collaborative, but take charge.Holding all of these expectations at once is exhausting. It creates a constant self-monitoring loop: Am I too much? Not enough? Did I say that wrong? No wonder so many women feel they must edit themselves to be accepted.&nbsp;A Nike commercial with the voice of Serena Williams from a few years ago captured this tension with striking clarity:“If we show emotion, we’re called dramatic. I f we want to play against men, we’re nuts. And if we dream of equal opportunity, delusional. When we stand for something, we’re unhinged. When we’re too good there’s something wrong with us. And if we get angry, we’re hysterical or irrational or just being crazy (…)” (Dream Crazier, Nike, 2020)These messages reveal how often the rules shift depending on how women show up. How can anyone feel secure when acceptance seems conditional on WHO you are and HOW you act?Women do not need to become someone else to succeed. Instead, we need to explore and strengthen the qualities we already possess: warmth, self-awareness, sensitivity, perception, and intuition and many others! When used intentionally, these qualities enable us to lead in ways that are both authentic and highly effective.Just remember this: You are not a project that needs to be fixed in order to be successful.<h3>Honoring Our Biology </h3>This is the part I find myself returning to again and again,&nbsp; because we almost never talk about it, and it matters so much.Women's bodies are not flat lines. Our hormones shape our energy, our focus, our mood, our sleep, not as a flaw, but as a natural rhythm. Yet most workplaces are designed around a model of constant, predictable productivity that ignores this entirely. So when you feel sharper some weeks and slower others, when rest feels necessary rather than lazy, you have been taught to push through it, or worse, to feel ashamed of it.&nbsp;But what if we looked at our biology not as a weakness but as a Superpower?When we understand our natural rhythms, we stop forcing ourselves to grind until we burn out. We make better decisions about rest, boundaries, and timing. We learn how to manage our energy, when to push, and when to recover.<h3>Why Coaching for Women Should Be Different </h3>Coaching that simply teaches women to be more assertive, more decisive, more action-oriented, is just another version of the same manual. It is asking you to adapt, again.The approach I take is different. It is rooted in understanding who you already are: your values, your capabilities, your biology, the way you naturally move through the world. And then learning to use all of that with intention. It means learning to recognize that:Caution is often wisdom.&nbsp;That sensitivity is a form of perception.&nbsp;That emotion carries information and self knowledge.That the self-awareness is actually one of your clearest strengths.Coaching, at its best, does not tell you who to become. It helps you see more clearly who you have been all along. You do not need a new manual. You need support in trusting the one you already carry.You are doing a lot. Tiene características muy particulares que muchas veces no sabemos nombrar, pero que se sienten.Es un duelo parcial;Nada de lo que dejamos atrás desaparece. Nuestra familia, nuestra cultura, nuestra historia siguen existiendo, pero ahora están lejos en tiempo y espacio. No podemos acceder a ellas cuando queremos. Esa distancia pesa, aunque sepamos que siguen ahí.También genera un cambio profundo de identidad;Adaptarse a un nuevo país implica ajustarse en muchos frentes a la vez: idioma, códigos sociales, forma de trabajar, vínculos, sentido de pertenencia. En ese proceso, inevitablemente, uno empieza a preguntarse: “Quién soy ahora”?Y, sobre todo, es un duelo ambivalente;En el mismo espacio conviven la nostalgia, el miedo, la tristeza y la soledad, junto con la ilusión, la sensación de logro y felicidad por las nuevas posibilidades.Personalmente me costó mucho aceptar estar triste. Siempre pensé que debería estar completamente feliz por vivir en Canadá y estar cumpliendo mis sueños.Muchas mujeres inmigrantes comparten esta misma confusión emocional. Existe una expectativa muy fuerte de que vivir en el extranjero debería ser increíble. Cuando esa expectativa domina, los sentimientos se invalidan, aparece la culpa y el silencio, y muchas creen que son las únicas que se sienten así.Nada de esto significa que migrar haya sido un error;<h3>Significa que somos humanos</h3>A traves de Lunova Coaching mi misión es acompañar a mujeres inmigrantes a entender y atravesar estos procesos con más claridad y menos exigencia hacia ellas mismas. <h3>Understanding Migratory Grief</h3>Migratory grief is a quiet, often misunderstood experience. It is the emotional response that comes with leaving behind a familiar place, culture, relationships, and a version of life that once felt stable. For many people, especially immigrants, this grief shows up in subtle ways: sadness that appears unexpectedly, loneliness even when surrounded by others, anxiety, or a sense of not fully recognizing yourself anymore.When I immigrated to Canada, I expected challenge. What I did not expect was grief. I missed my language, my rhythms, my people, and the ease of being understood without explanation. At the same time, I felt pressure to feel grateful, capable, and strong. That tension made the grief harder to name.Migratory grief is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a natural response to profound change. Recognizing it, and allowing it to exist without judgment, is often the first step toward healing.<h3>Making Space for Change</h3>Change can feel overwhelming when it arrives all at once. A new country brings new systems, social norms, and expectations. Even small daily interactions can require extra energy. Over time, this can create emotional fatigue.Reframing change as something to engage with, rather than something to endure, can gently shift the experience. Exploring your new environment, building routines, and finding points of familiarity can create anchors of stability. Belonging often grows slowly, through repeated moments of connection rather than one big breakthrough.<h3>Building Resilience Along the Way</h3>Resilience is not about pushing through or minimizing what you feel. It is about learning how to hold complexity without losing yourself. For immigrants, resilience often includes honoring what was left behind while adapting to what is new.Staying connected to loved ones, creating personal rituals, and prioritizing mental and emotional care all matter. Setting realistic expectations for yourself also matters. Adaptation is not linear, and it does not follow a fixed timeline.<h3>Seeking and Accepting Support</h3>Migratory grief can feel isolating, especially when it is invisible to others. Support can come in many forms: therapy, coaching, community groups, or honest conversations with people who understand this experience firsthand.Reaching out for support does not mean you are failing. It means you are responding wisely to a life transition that asks a lot of you.<h3>Finding Meaning in the Journey</h3>Migration changes you. It reshapes identity, confidence, and belonging. While migratory grief can be painful, it can also open space for self-discovery, deeper self-trust, and a more intentional relationship with your life and career.Your story did not reset when you moved. On paper, I had experience, education, and a strong work ethic. In reality, I was adapting to a new culture, a new professional context, and a version of myself that felt unfamiliar. For a long time, I focused on survival and achievement, while feeling disconnected from meaning and direction. Purpose became the missing piece.<h3>Reflecting on Personal Values and Passions</h3>The journey toward purpose starts with reflection. Taking time to identify what truly matters to you can feel uncomfortable, especially when you are used to prioritizing stability or external expectations. Values and passions are often shaped by culture, family, and lived experiences. For multicultural women, this reflection can uncover both strengths and internal conflicts.Purpose begins to take shape when you allow your values to inform your decisions rather than pushing them aside to fit in or move faster.<h3>Identifying Strengths and Skills</h3>Multicultural women bring a depth of skills that often go unrecognized, adaptability, emotional intelligence, cross-cultural communication, and resilience. These strengths are not always named or rewarded in traditional workplaces, which can lead to self-doubt.Recognizing and owning your strengths is an act of clarity. It allows you to position yourself intentionally and to choose paths that align with how you naturally contribute and lead.<h3>Navigating Workplace Challenges</h3>Bias, cultural misunderstandings, and unspoken rules are realities many multicultural women face. These challenges can quietly erode confidence and sense of belonging. Naming them matters. So does building strategies to navigate them without losing yourself in the process.Purpose helps here. It is a source of insight, creativity, and leadership. Careers shift, priorities change, and new questions emerge. Staying open to learning keeps you flexible and grounded.
